The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), The Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IMBA) and the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (GMI) are basic research institutions involved in life science research. Particular research topis are molecular genetics, developmental biology, neurobiology and other branches of biological and biotechnological research on organisms such as humans and other common model organisms (mice, flies, plants). IMP, MBA and GMI are within close proximity of each other and located on the the Vienna Bio Center (VBC) in Vienna, Austria.
IMP and IMBA and the GMI together operate shared scientific core facilities that are tasked with operating and managing scientific instruments in a professional and efficient manner and providing scientific services to the researches at the VBC. One of these facilities, IT Services, employs a dedicated HPC team to operate, maintain and provide research computing infrastructure.
